Women Executive Leadership, Inc. (WEL), was created in 1999 by a group of South Florida businesswomen who understand the important role that women play by serving on boards and in executive leadership positions. As agents of change, WEL’s primary mission is to advocate, educate and connect accomplished women with the goal of increasing the number of women serving on Corporate Boards and in Executive Suites. Not only is WEL helping companies diversify their boards and increase their talent pool, it is helping female executives expand their influence and increase their visibility by providing a forum where executive women can unite, network, and leverage best practices within an organization of their peers.
Board-ready, Set, Go
We realize that far too often qualified female candidates are often overlooked for seats on Boards or in Executive Suites. In fact, the 2008 Census revealed only 7.4 percent or 1,276 seats on corporate boards in Florida were held by women. That number was down from 8.7 percent in 2006. WEL is ramping up its efforts to help more women assume the positions on Boards and in Executive Suites. By educating, advocating and connecting, WEL provides women access to Board and Executive searches, and helps candidates get ready so that when opportunity knocks, they can answer.
WEL Helps Companies Identify Female Board and Executive Candidates
Women Executive Leadership is committed to helping companies, search firms and executives involved in the search selection process with identifying female talent and is committed to helping female executives access search opportunities. With deep roots in the business community, Women Executive Leadership is working to change the landscape of corporate boards and executive teams through meeting with companies and business leaders to educate them on how we can help them. WEL has alliances with search firms and is an affiliate of the InterOganization Network (ION) that includes a database of approx 10,000 women in 14 regions across the U.S.
